FUF#5: Fadin’…fast!

Losing a bit of steam with this weekly challenge, and I’d say that I’m a bit embarrassed to admit it…but hey, I’m only human and even the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray!

*sigh*

Such is life…time gets away some times, just gotta pick right back up. But, this week wasn’t all lost! I found out a week ago that my boss’s
boss’s boss is paying me a store visit, so that’s kind of taken up my life. I’ve got about a week left to prepare the store, so I had to put some of my personal goals to the side for just a brief pause!

I did get some things accomplished…

2) Made it to the gym 2 out of the 4 days that I challenged myself, but to my defense…I did do two hard days and the other two days that I didn’t make it to PF, I did make it to the mall to cardio-shop! ๐Ÿ™‚

3) I started the purging of the closet and I’ve gone through one section but still a looooot more to go! I’m enlisting my bestfriend’s help so that hopefully by the end of the month, this project will be done…or one can hope!! Just something about letting go of clothes…why is it so hard for ladies to do?! ๐Ÿ˜€

Welp, here’s to hoping that two not-so-stellar weeks won’t completely bring my resolution progress down to a halt! Lol!

MPM #5: Startin’ off another week…

I just love, love, lโค๏ธve Pinterest, and this morning, the above poster was the first on the feed I was browsing and it made me wonder if it was specifically trying to talk to me…lol.

So, starting this week off right and pressing on…here are this week’s goals:

1) Wrap up last week’s projects: mail the care package and edit my photographs!

2) Make it to back to the gym at least 4-5 days this week (since I didn’t at all during my long work week last week…bah!!!)

3) Knock off another from my 26 list: clean a room and purge clothes some things, anything…

I really am calling myself out with the number 3 because if I don’t post this and hold myself accountable, I’m always going to find a way to justify keeping some of the most random stuff I have and don’t use!

So…short and sweet this week as I take one from my high school Physics teacher–Mr. Rogers, “K.I.S.S.: Keep It Simple Stupid!” I’m sure he didn’t come up with it but he sure did use that saying every time we tried to work on some complicated problem or fixed up our robotics project—yes, I said ‘robotics.’ *nerd much?!? Lol*

Alright…what’s your three? Lemme know how it’s going…

FUF #4: Whomp…Whomp…Whomp!

What a bummer! I challenged the challenge head on but probably bit off too much by lining up three goals that are more project-like in nature and required hands on time when this was my long week at work! Bah! Oh, well! Not to be discouraged…failure just means an opportunity to try again and go harder next time!!!

But all wasn’t completely lost this week…it just wasn’t nearly as victorious as the previous one! I did make a few steps into the three mini-challenges but due to the lack of free time, I didn’t finish the projects completely!

Here’s my progress so far:

1) Pick up photography again and explore Charlotte: The winter storm that came through did bring some bad traffic across the south but it also provided a great inspiration as a backdrop for my first photo project! I kind of cheated and didn’t really drive out to explore the city but the woods in my backyard was just as pretty to explore and photograph; plus it kept me off the crazy icy/snowy roads.

It felt nice to have my Sony DSLR in my hands again and with my longer lens in tow, I was able to capture birds and my surprise guests—a family of deer!!! The reason why I only half-finished this goal though is that I haven’t had time to really look through my shots, but here is a teaser! Don’t judge that it’s not all that fancy…I’m no professional! I just love goofin’ off with my camera!!!

2) Get caught up with current events: I’m ashamed to admit that I get so easily caught up in my bubble that I don’t know what is going on in other parts of the world! This is embarrassing!!! So the goal was to read the local paper and I did…but guess what, all week long, all the Queen City talked about was the snow and the chaos that ensued with it. Not exactly the current events that I was thinking l needed to really immerse myself in…I’d like to challenge myself to go even deeper and dig further! Does anyone have any readers/sites/bloggers to recommend?

3) Make a handmade card for a friend and snail mail it: Soooo…I’m half way through this one as well. I was just going to make a card as I challenged myself but then I got excited and came up with an idea to make a care package for a friend (details on a later post!). Let’s just say again that lack of time prevented me from actually getting the package finished and mailed off! Oh well! At least, I’m one step into it and I know they will just love the random surprise whenever I finally do finish it!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

So…although not as accomplished as I had hope, at least the week wasn’t a complete bust! Can’t expect to just breeze through resolutions and goals every week! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Coast to Coast: Resolutions Revisited #1

I’m so excited because this is my first ever post joining a link-up! I’m a bit embarrassed to report that I had to Google the rules of a link-up even though the awesome hosts, Port City Prescriptions and Flowers In My Hair, explained the rules. I just wanted to make sure I do this right! Can’t you tell I’m a bit behind in the blogging scene?!? HA HA HA!

So, the rules for the link-up: recap the resolutions, link to the fabulous ladies of Coast to Coast: Resolutions Revisited, and repeat every last Tuesday of the month! Easy enough…here we go!

My list of resolutions were a bit generic but my plan of attack of Mission Possible Mondays and Follow-Up Fridays has been very successful! Little baby steps, every week to ultimately achieve all of the goals below:

1) Lose weight
2) Improve finances
3) Exercise more
4) Get a new/better job
5) Eat healthy
6) Manage stress
7) Quit smoking (Thank God, I never picked up this bad habit!)
8) Improve relationship
9) Stop procrastinating
10) Set aside “me” time

So, here’s the recap:

Four weeks into the new year, and I’m proud to report that MPMs and FUFs have been gosh-durned successful so far!!! I’m really proud of staying on top of this and really making it a weekly goal to start off every week strong and on the right foot by challenging myself and then truly holding myself accountable by the end of the week by assessing and evaluating how I did. The small weekly goals also make the loooooong list of resolutions more realistic and attainable! LOL!

So, which resolutions have I put a dent on with the MPMs and FUFs…

Resolutions 1, 3, and 5: Well, I haven’t lost all of the weight that I wanted to lose but I can definitely report that the relatively healthier meals and snacks I have been eating has at least helped me shed off my excess water weight. It’s unfortunate that my work schedule is posing as a barrier for me making it to Planet Fitness more often, but when I do make it in there, I try to go as hard as I possibly can and go as long as I can! (I can already hear the, “That’s what she said,” comments!!!) I absolutely love the 30-minute circuit workout in my location and I would recommend getting the membership for those who are super self-conscious about working out with machines–they really do live up to the “No Judgment Zone” at PF! Might be silly, but I get really paranoid that people are looking at me like I’m way in over my head with some machines, but I don’t have to worry about that at PF!

Resolution #2: On the topic of finances…I actually am challenging myself to be more budget conscious, starting NOW! I am always big on shopping deals and looking for sales, and I hardly ever buy anything at the suggested retail price–but that doesn’t mean that I’m not splurging either. Eventually, all the small purchases add up very quickly! Yikes! With that said, I’m challenging myself to start looking at how to better budget–including groceries, especially trying to figure out how to reduce waste!!! Does anyone have any budgeting books/sites or worksheets to recommend???

Resolutions 4 and 6: I’m bundling up managing stress with work, since that typically generates the most stress in my life! I’d love to just say that I love helping out my patients so much and that taking care of their health provides me with ultimate, 100% job satisfaction, but there are just those other patients, MDs, and insurance companies that make me want to pull my hair out and just scream. Plus, working in the corporate setting where the bosses want to get as much work for as little manpower as possible, can be very disheartening as a manager…but hey, those are negatives that I’ve been working really hard on these past couple of weeks to overcome, and I’d like to think that I have. Even my husband can attest that I’ve been complaining less and less…bless his heart! He he he! To be honest, there have been two key things that have been really big wins for me in this area: PERSPECTIVE and DELEGATING. I’ve been really striving hard to see my job through different people’s eyes, as well as try not to be Superwoman and be so controlling–delegating for a Type A person is crazy difficult, but when done correctly can be so rewarding! ๐Ÿ˜€

Resolution 8: Work on my relationships…so vague yet…hmm! I’ll defer on this one for now because this post is getting too long and to be honest, besides always striving to make my relationship with my husband stronger, to always take care of my family, and to find ways to reconnect with my friends who are far…there is just so much that I can work and more importantly, there is always my relationship with God that I need to spend time on!

Resolution 9: Stop procrastinating…hmmm…how about I’m still working on not procrastinating on stopping procrastinating. LOL!

Resolution 10:ME” time…working on this, too! With the help of my fabulous husband, we’re working on this and still finding ways for me to relax, slow down, and enjoy life…not get too caught up life!

Anyways…this is getting too long and well, if any of you have any suggestions on how to make bigger strides with any of these goals, please let me know! I’d love to also see what everyone else is doing! ๐Ÿ˜€

MPM #4: Challenging the challenge…

‘Twas another 14-hour day back to the grind filled with “no stupid” questions and other several fires to put away, but nothing that my new and improve, more positive me couldn’t handle…hello Monday!.

I’d say, “Can you sense the sarcasm?”, but to be honest, there is only a slight lingering hint of sarcasm in there now and not as much than per usual. At every point in my day today where it could have easily gone south, I just told myself that it wasn’t worth it and tried to focus on one of my past weekly challenges…and just like that, it seemed to work and the day got better—that, and the day kept going on regardless! There really was no time to dwell on anything anyway…C’est la vie!

And coming to that realization was really just refreshing…to realize that making these small steps every week are really actually helping me accomplish something one step at a time. Whoduthunkit?

Well, since I’m on a roll…I suppose we should just keep it going, and hopefully y’all saw my long post last night that was inspired by The Daily Post. Lemme tell you that coming up with 26 meaningful and realistic goals to accomplish in 9 months required a lot of thinking. Interestingly, as my husband helped me come up with the list we realized that after Googling for other blogs to see what other people have challenged themselves, it only made me appreciate (and thank The Lord, God even more) how blessed I really am that I have hit a lot of high points in my life already and have had some pretty darn great experiences…I would read a blog out loud to the hubs and many of the things that people were wanting to accomplish by 30, I could actually check off, like:

– 9yo: got a passport
-10yo: traveled to a different country (moved from the Philippines to Guam…then South Carolina)
-15yo: bungee jumped
-16yo: learned to play the guitar
-23yo: zip lined the Philippines
-24yo: explored Road to Hana in Hawaii, married the man of dreams, adventured in Costa Rica and Nicaragua
-25yo: bought a house, relaxed in the Dominican Republic, and splurged $$$ on something just because I deserve it

And so on and so forth…I’m going to stop before I start to sound too braggy-braggy. Gross! Lol!

So back to trying to tie in my 26 things before my 26th year ends and this week’s MPM…might as well knock some things off that list while I’m on a roll with the MPMs

1) Pick up photography againโ€ฆand in the process, explore the Queen City and really enjoy being a Charlotte-ian: I challenge myself to one photo blog entry this week highlighting something about the QC.

2) Get caught up with current events (Iโ€™ll start with at least a weekly goal of perusing the local on-line newspaper!): I challenge myself to read the Charlotte Observer as many days as possible this week.

3) Randomly write thank you notes via the good olโ€™ snail mail to at least five people in my past and try to reconnect again: I challenge myself this week to at least send one handmade “just because” card!

Here’s to feeling accomplished and to accomplishing even more! VICTORY!!!! Lol!

TDP: Your Days Are Numbered ’26’

As an October baby, I am three months into my 26th year. This means that I only have nine more months left as 26 years old, and I am that much closer to being in my late twenties.

I don’t really know how I should feel about all of that…and then thinking about the number reminded me of this article that was all over my Facebook feed last month: 23 things to do before getting engaged at 23.

Now, as I’ve blogged before, I am married and now I’ve shared my age…so the list above will no longer apply to me (plus I strongly disagree with the blogger, but oh well, she is entitled to her own thoughts!!!) But just for fun and for today’s TDP challenge, check out my list…

26 things to do before my 26th year ends (in no particular order, of course!)

1) Start volunteering again like back in my college days!

~ Cleaning up a transitional home for MLK Day of Service 2009 ~

2) Pick up photography again…and in the process, explore the Queen City and really enjoy being a Charlotte-ian (two birds with one stone!)

3) Get caught up with current events (I’ll start with at least a weekly goal of perusing the local on-line newspaper!)

4) Continue to blog regularly and figure out what I really want to achieve with this blog.

5) Learn basic medical Spanish for my patients.

6) Give up Facebook for at least one week.

7) Finish at least five Pinterest projects waiting to be started on my boards.

8) Take a spontaneous trip (I’m a bit of a planner, so this will be very interesting but a lot of fun, I think!!!).

9) Attend a road SEC game with the Gamecocks.

10) Update my resume and stay relevant, promoteable, and competitive.

11) Read at least 5 inspirational books and really dig deep to get motivated, rejuvenated, and engaged!

12) Go on another family camping trip since the hubs, the pup, and I had such a blast on our first one together back in October!

13) Cut my 12-minute mile down to 10 minutes (my husband says he will help me with this one!!!).

14) Get to the lower end of my
BMI range (hopefully before our trips to Hawaii and our annual Caribbean anniversary trip!!!).

15) Continuing on the topic of health, finally find a local primary care physician in Charlotte and get a full physical! (I still rely on my family doctor about an hour and a half away or go to the Minute Clinic, so I haven’t really had a full proper annual in almost two years!

16) Thoroughly clean out my closet and purge clothes (so my husband can have some decent closet space for once!!! ).

17) Speaking of cleaning up, declutter even more and get rid of at least 26 things I don’t need/use and donate to Goodwill.

18) Pay it forward once in a while.

19) Randomly write thank you notes via the good ol’ snail mail to at least five people in my past and try to reconnect again!

20) Give up Facebook for at least two more weeks.

21) Really attempt to give up Facebook for another three weeks.

22) Watch (and stay awake) through an entire classic 007 Bond movie–which is my husband’s favorite collection!

23) Create a budget for non-essential spending and especially limit my weekly trips to Marshall’s and Target (I’m such a sucker for deals!!!)

24) Speaking of budgets and as the hubs and I are also striving for being healthier, keep track of grocery shopping/spending and prevent waste as much as possible!!!

25) Find ways to better manage, deal, and/or cope with stress–whether it be by learning a new way of meditation or by letting go and delegating more (just not by shopping, of course!)

26) Attempt 26 shots to ring in my 27th year…just kidding, I’d probably end up in the hospital!!! Start a list of 27 things to do before my 27th year ends!

So, that’s a lot. Coming up with the list was a bit much for a Sunday night…but it was actually a pretty fun and interesting exercise for my husband and I come up with together, and he even asked me to help him come up with one for himself, too!

Between this and my MPM/FUF personal challenge…this blog should stay fairly active, don’t you say? Have any other suggestions to add to my list??? Well, I’m excited to get started right away…nine months and counting!!!

FUF #3: Gettin’ real (and basic), got good!

Yes, the basics! Oh, the most basic and simplest of goals this week, and yet I feel I accomplished so much! When I woke up this morning, I felt like tossing off the covers, throwing up my arms over my head, and screaming “VICTORY!!!”

This past Monday, I wanted to focus on three things this week: (1) to worry less, (2) to delegate, and (3) to be a sweeter wife!

Simple enough but I was having such a tough and crazy week before this one that I had to lay it all out for myself and focusing on these simple things made me realize one thing: PERSPECTIVE

Once I took a beat and just stopped for a moment to really think about what I was stressing over, I was then able to find another way to look at the situation, and like magic, my day went just about that much smoother and that much better. It’s crazy how sometimes it’s so easy to just let life eat up our lives away. It’s so easy to get caught up with the details and forget the bigger picture…

So this week…

Work is driving me nuts as always because I am trying to position myself to be promoteable (is that a word because WP is not recognizing it), but I didn’t want it to take over my personal life anymore. My very supportive husband is just amaze-balls at what he puts up listening to when I get home, as I vent like crazy.. But I wanted to be a sweeter wife, so I let him off this week and tried my absolute hardest to keep the work talk to the minimal. In addition to forcing myself to delegate, I took the extra time to set up a meeting with my bosses and partner to game plan for the month, which allowed me to take some of the workload off myself now that my partner is in the loop and will be taking on some of the tasks I’ve been loading on to myself!!! Can you say victory all around?!?

There were other small victories throughout the week, but enough of the boring talk and skipping on to the fun part as I did promise that my blog would be about me goofing off and all this serious talk is too much nonsense….

This past week was restaurant week in the Queen City!. (Do I hear, “victory,” again somewhere in the background?!? Lol!)

The hubs and I picked three restaurants, and we had a blast sampling some of the best of what Charlotte has to offer, as well as enjoyed the company of good friends!
